My English class just watched a documentary called "war photographer" it was about a world famous photographer named James Nachtwey and his journeys to war zones and lands full of poverty to take photographs that were so brilliant and moving it was almost unbelievable. He was able to get to know the family members of soldiers who died in the war, and the emotions of grief and hopelessness that he was able to capture on camera was astounding. Some of the photographs that he took were shown in the film and to be honest they were quite disturbing and gut wrenching, however they were so well photographed that it was difficult not to look at them, and to admire them. I think people like James Nachtwey are important because they show the world what the war is really like, and what the consequences truly are.

"The most astounding fact" is a response made by Dr. Neil Degrasse Tyson, but is it truly the most astounding fact? Well personally I do not believe in the big bang theory or the theory of evolution however I do agree with Dr. Tyson about all humans being connected, I don't think anyone can argue with that fact. Whether you believe in evolution, or your a christian, or you don't have any believes, you cant deny that humans are connected. So i think that Dr. Tyson did have a good point, and i do agree with him to a certain extent.

In the 2009 film "the blind side" Michael Oher goes through a big character journey and he is a great a great example of the high 5 principles which are: follow your heart, change is constant, learning is ongoing, focus on the journey, and access your allies. Michael follows his heart when he decides to go to the university of Tennessee instead of the university of Michigan. Everyone pressures Michael to attend Michigan but he wants to go to Tennessee so he follows his heart and attends the university of Tennessee. Michael learns that change is constant when he experiences new things, like living in a house with a white family, sleeping on a bed, playing football, and other things that may sound simple to us, but that he had never experienced. Michael finds out that learning is an ongoing thing when he begins to attend the Christian high school, he begins learning new subjects and  to how to play the game of football. Michael learns to focus on the journey when he wants to get a football scholarship and must raise his grade average dramatically to get one, he works very hard knowing that if he does, it will pay off. Finally Michael learns to access his allies, he does this with Leigh Anne who helps him achieve all of his goals and who shows him kindness that no one else had shown him before. Michael knows that Leigh Anne can help him with a lot of things so he asks her for her help. Michael Oher is a character who is a great example of the high 5 principles.

The British action thriller film V for Vendetta based off the graphic novel by Alen Moore of the same title, tells the story of a woman named Evey and a terrorist who goes by the alias V. The film follows both characters over the course of 1 year in a near future Britan, we see them both live in a very politically driven world and we see how they both deal with it. Evey excepts the fact that this is the world that she lives in and obeys the rules she is told to follow and in result she suffers with fears and anxieties. V however takes matters into his hands and although he uses rather extreme measures to get his point across which is that the British government has gone too far and that he is not the villain but that the British government is, he does get it across to the British people and they begin to fight back against the government for whats right. We also see V help Evey come overcome her fears of the world and overall become a better and stronger person. V for Vendetta shows us how giving power to the wrong people can be dangerous and that sometimes we need to fight back against the people who put us into negative positions and that rather then just hoping for good to come into our lives, we need to make the good come into our lives by putting good into the world.

My English class just got back from a short field trip to the communitech office in downtown Kitchener and it was very remarkable to see just how far technology has come. We were able to see a 3D simulator and it was incredible to see how interactive it was and to imagine the great potential that it possesses whether it would be used for military training, helping people overcome fears and phobias, or simply taking video games to that next level. We also had the privilege of touring the Google office, which was incredibly awesome because of the offices creative and fun work space with things like a slide, comfortable chairs, basketball nets, and hammocks. Over all the trip was really cool.
